It has always been my dream to work in a creative job.

And, after many years of working in administration, I decided to give it another go.

These prominent thoughts ran through my mind as I came to the realisation that I wanted a new challenge, a new adventure. Taking a deep breath, I bucked the trend and decided upon a career change to graphic design at the age 41. At the time, I had a steady, successful career as a senior product development manager in a global craft company

ADVANCED GRAPHIC DESIGN LEVEL 3 COURSE

I have always been creative but it wasn’t until I had left school and took up photography as a hobby it opened up a whole new world for me.

It was through this new interest that I started using Photoshop for photo editing, which then progressed into learning Desktop Publishing. My curiosity then extended to graphic design. Juggling full-time work with evening courses at my local college and self-teaching, I soon realised that enthusiasm wouldn’t be enough to break into the industry I needed formal qualifications. Time was slipping away, and doubts crept in, making me wonder if I had left it too late to chase my dreams.

Refusing to give in to discouragement, I started researching the internet for online courses but struggled to find the right fit until I came across the CDS.

Time to decide

After I contacted the school, I had a Skype call with Pete, which restored my hope. He guided me through my options, tailoring the course selection to match my existing skills. After our discussion, I opted for the Graphic Design Diploma Level 3 Advanced course.

I was impressed by what the course covered and the personalised tutor support offered throughout. The flexibility of the course made it an ideal match for my schedule. As I progressed through the modules, receiving invaluable feedback from my course tutor, I began to build a professional portfolio this is an area where I desperately needed advice. Since then, I designed my own website, which has been a great project for me. It’s still a work in progress, but I am interested in learning more about it.

Outcome

I am so pleased with what I have accomplished since completing this course. It has given me the confidence to believe in myself, and as a result, I have since started a new role as an Imagery Administrator, which I love as it allows me to use my creative skills. I cannot recommend this school enough and would not hesitate to come back to study at the Creative Design School again.
