TEXTILE DESIGN FOR BEGINNERS

At The Creative Design School, we offer a Textile Design course at the beginner level. It is designed for those who have never studied textile design before but would like to get started in this exciting profession.

As a textile designer, you create designs and patterns for clothes, soft furnishings, and materials used in industry and manufacturing. What is important to consider as a designer in this industry is the development of colour palettes as it plays a crucial role in textile design. Designers carefully select and develop colour palettes that complement their patterns and evoke the desired emotions. They consider factors such as trends, cultural influences, and target audience preferences. There are further basic skills and knowledge that are important as a textile designer that you will learn within this course.

This course has 6 different modules to be completed that will help to build a basic understanding of textile design for beginners. Each module has been designed as progressive steps so that you are learning by doing. You will be presented with Projects and Assignments in each module in which you will be assessed, plus a final exam which is carried out online through

OVERVIEW

In the Beginners course for Textile Design, you will be given different Projects and Assignments in each module to slowly help build your understanding of textile design. Throughout the duration of the course, you will learn about the textile industry, techniques, and history to develop your overall understanding, develop a drawing technique to help you start designing your very own patterns, learn about different materials available, how to develop a creative process that works for you and much more. You will also obtain knowledge of fabrics, colour principles, and how to develop your unique styles. Within this course, You will have your one-to-one tutor who will guide you through a step-by-step process and will provide you with additional support if needed. These small and gradual steps will help you have the basic knowledge and skills required to progress onto the Textile Graphic Design level 2 course.

In the final module, you will start on your design projects. You will have had some practice working on designs throughout this course to help you learn various techniques, but now it’s time for you to put your new skills to the test. Once you have completed all of your modules you will then complete a final exam which will be project-based. This is carried out online through our online campus.

 

MODULE ONE: Introduction to Textile Design
This is an introduction Module that looks briefly at the textile industry, you will cover the industry’s background, history, and techniques.

MODULE TWO: What you need to become a Textile Designer
This module will look at the kit that most practitioners are likely to find themselves working with and how to make the most of the environment in which you design. How you organise these things can have a big effect on both the quality and efficiency of your working life and it is worth spending some time to get them right.

MODULE THREE: Textile Design Drawing Techniques
This module will look at a drawing technique that should help you start designing your very own patterns. For this module, we are going to look at an easy technique which you will start by tracing some flower images. You will be guided through a step-by-step process to help you, and your course tutor will be able to provide you with additional support should you find something difficult or don’t understand.

MODULE FOUR: Understanding Materials
Understanding the different types of materials available for textile designers is very important. Understanding these basic materials will help you focus on how your design will work before you get started.

MODULE FIVE: Creative Process – level 1
Having a creative process is essential when it comes to being a creative and unique designer.

In this module, we will look at how you will develop your creative process to help you find inspiration and ideas that will work and stand out from everyone else.

MODULE SIX: Start Designing
Now is the time for you to start on your design projects. You will have had some practice working on designs throughout this course to help you learn various techniques, but now it’s time for you to put your new skills to the test.
